This chapter is a translation of the first half of one of Chŏng Tojŏn’s most influential works, A Literary Mirror to Order the World. In this section, Chŏng uses Chinese history and classical works, most especially the Rites of Zhou, to support his vision of proper government, which he offered as a kind of blueprint for the newly founded Chosŏn dynasty.
