In this chapter, Kim Iryŏp argues that the goal of human beings is to attain peace and calm, exert an independent mind, and achieve life energy or saengmyŏng. According to Iryŏp, this life energy is also known as “the foundation of life,” Dao (path), the mind, or thought. When we put them all together, we call it the “I.” When life energy and reality are combined, that combination is called the Buddhist law. Iryŏp also reflects on life energy in relation to nature, the Buddhist law and the universe, and mental transcendence and emphasizes the role of journalists in leading the general public, society, and all human kind on the correct path—the path to eternity.
