Nancy Rosenberger, a professor of anthropology at Oregon State University, has been conducting research in Japan for more than three decades. Since doing her dissertation research at the University of Michigan on experiences and conceptions of menopause in Japan, she has written numerous articles and several books: Gambling with Virtue: Japanese Women and Sense of Self in a Changing Nation; an edited volume entitled Japanese Sense of Self; and Seeking Food Rights: Nation, Inequality and Repression in Uzbekistan. She is currently researching the alternative lifestyle of organic farmers in Japan as well as continuing the longitudinal study of Japanese women featured in this book.
