From Wise Mother to Chan Master
From Wise Mother to Chan Master
Baochi Jizong
This chapter focuses on Chan master Baochi Jizong. Baochi Jizong’s interest in Chan, and her visits to the Marvelous Clarity Convent and then to Mount Lingyan, preceded the death of her husband. When he died, she went to Mount Lingyan again, this time to take the tonsure and the ordination with Jiqi Hongchu. She then took up residence near the monastery in order to fully participate in the religious training and group meditation retreats. Eventually, Jiqi Hongchu declared her a Dharma heir, then she left to become the abbess of the Marvelous Clarity Convent, where she had spent so many days as a laywoman.
