The Introduction provides a broad contextual and theoretical background for the study. It makes a case for treating Oceania as a specific area of world theatre production, provides a brief background to the form and development of post-1960s theatre from the region, and discusses how theatre operates to express various modes of historical knowledge in Oceania.
